Total money lost $140

Type of a scam Online Purchase

I was attempting to purchase a boxer puppy, I had done google search. The boxer puppy breeder website came up so I gave my contact info so they could get back to me. With in hours I was receiving text messages from the "breeder". I was looking for a female puppy, the breeder kept sending pictures of male puppies. That should have been the first red flag but I kept going. He final sent me a picture of a puppy that was female. So I "purchased" the dog. The breeder wanted to be paid via Cashapp which I do not have. He wanted me to go to a store and purchase gift cards, I refused. So he had his wife create a Venmo account and I transferred money. A total of $1,000. The breeder said that first thing in the morning he would coordinate with the shipping company.

The next day I received text messages and email from Global Safe Delivery about the puppy. The shipping agency wanted $1450 for insurance but they would not accept credit card, an international company should be able to accept credit card. So I contacted the breeder and told him that I thought this was a scam. That if there really was a dog that he should find a different shipping agency. He never did what I asked and continued to insist the I give the Global Safe Delivery my money. I refused and told the breeder that I wanted my money back and he can keep his dog.

Luckily Venmo had caught on that this breeder was a scammer because Venmo cancelled his account and gave me back 80% of my transaction. The breeder never gave me back the rest of the money, so he made $140 of my ignorance. A real dog breeder should be able to tell the sex of their puppies, coordinate with you and the shipping agency without any problems and be able to accept different payment methods.
