Type of a scam Debt Collections
I received a call stating that they were trying to deliver something to me and were unable. Hold to be connected . I had been getting texts stating the same but did not click on them. Then this American sounding professional male voice comes on the phone to say that they have been trying to deliver a summons to me for court. He then went on to say that there has been a judgement ordered against me . Continued with I owe $265 dollars. He stated it was an old debt. He first said it was from 2015, but then said it was from 20009. Every single question I asked him, he had a reasonable answer for. He claimed he had sent me 3 correspondence in the mail to discuss this and to try to settle on the claim. He said the orginal debt was $789 dollars but with interest and court fees it is now $2651.00. He claimed the debt was from a CreditONE bank. When I said I never had an account with them he said they have hundreds of credit cards like home depot and macy. However, i have good standing with them. When I said why have I never got any creditors trying to collect the debt in 11 years, he claimed that they had been contacting me and it goes through 3 collection agencies before it gets to him. He is the legal department of this company. When I asked for the company name, he did not come up on Google, however when he gave me the exact web address an very nice website came up, but said nothing about collections. I asked why this is not on my credit report and he claimed they were about to add it. Which makes not sense. He put me on hold and came back and said that he spoke to his manager and they would be willing to settle as requested in writing (but I never got any of their letters). If I paid $651 today, they would not take me to court and they would accept it as full payment. They emailed me a nice letter through docusign, (very official), letter dated June so that the appeal period was over due. He had a women’s voice answer the phones and put you on hold. He told me I could speak to anyone in the office (even though his voice is on the voicemail and on the intial dial up) He claimed it wasn’t his voice but it was. He answered the next day and pretended he did not remember talking to me for one hour! I told him that I need to know that this is not a scam and that I needed time to do my due diligence and make sure this is really something that I owe. He said and quote "people that are scamming ask you for your information, they don’t have your information , ) and then went on to state my full social security number, address and birthdate. This really scared me!!! and still does!
I called Credit ONe and I never had an account with them. They assured me that this was not a debt I owed them. He stated hat once it goes to legal departments it disappears from the Creditors website. However, the credit card company stated they would have record of me having a card with them. I contacted an attorney and he stated there was not judgement against me. He stated that the address does not exist and showed me a picture of a strip mall where the office is supposedly . The attorney said that there were a few businesses with that name but none of them had a legal or collections department. I called the guy back the next day and said I consulted with and attorney and he tried challenging me to say have have my attorney call his attorney. I asked for his email to send a letter of appeal which his letter said we had the right to and that then they have to disclose more information. He said don’t bother we are not accepting. I said your letter says I have 30 days . He said letter was dated JUne 3. I said my attorney has proof it was time stamped on August 25 the day before. He got angry, called me a liar that I don’t really have an attorney and hung up on me. I sent in my letter of dispute. I am very scared that this person went to extreme lengths to scam me, that he will try to do more damage since he has my information. These scammers are big business and cause for a great deal of fear in these times.
