Type of a scam Business Email Compromise
I received e-mails that appeared to be from our executive director instructing me to transfer $51,816.00 to John Finnerty at Federal Credit Union, 4201 Members Way, Fairfax, VA 22020. The e-mail included account number: 10322288 and routing number: 256078501. When I looked up Federal Credit Union they did have a web site: https://www.fairfaxcu.org/index.html, but things that you don’t normally see posted to the home page that made me suspicious. When I called the CU, the receptionist transferred me to John Asaam, who acknowledged that they were aware of the scam and that their IT department was trying to track the e-mails.
