Type of a scam Tech Support

On April 05 I received a phone call from what sounded like a call centre. The caller identified himself as a technical support rep for Microsoft and indicated that there were serious problems with my computer. He walked me through several steps to demonstrate or ‘prove’ the fact that my computer was infected; and then a "one time" payment of $149.00 US was solicited (payable by credit card) for a product that would provide the solution to permanently fix these problems and secure my network. When I declined to purchase the call was abruptly ended.
