Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I was selling a media center for $700 via an online app called "Offerup". I was contacted via email by a John Fred or Freddy who said he will send a cashiers check and make arrangements for someone to pick up the media center. A few days later, he informed me the check will be delivered via USPS and provided me a tracking number. I was instructed to cash the check and let him know if its been deposited and wanted me to send him a snapshot of the deposit slip to be sure when the funds will clear. When the cashiers check was delivered via USPS, the amount was for $3,214 from Western FCU, Manhattan Beach, CA. I found Western FCU’s website but no phone number to call to verify legitimacy so I was pretty sure it was a scam. I then informed Mr. Fred/Freddy that I will be keeping the check as evidence for the ScamPulse.com and FBI.
