Type of a scam Utility

Our office received a call on March 24th saying our electric service was going to be disconnected at 5:30 that day. I called the number that was given to call back (800-689-2294) and he asked for our account number. I gave him that number and he said that our service was going to be disconnected today at 5:30 due to nonpayment. I told him that we had paid our bill and he asked for a confirmation number. I told him I would have to get the info from another computer and he said to call him right back. After hanging up I attempted to call the local MLGW number and it was after 4:30. I also noticed there is no 1-800 number listed with MLGW. I searched online to see who owned this 800 number and nothing came up. This sounded like a scam to me so I did not return the call
