A check #8338702 in the amount $1,950.00 Issued by John Hancock Life Insurance Co, and Citibank N.A. arrived in the mail today. It asks for a Processing fee of $1,800.00 to activate the check enclosed. It says I matched the first 5 lucky numbers and I won US$180,000.00 from the consumers sweepstakes lottery held on March 24th 2017.

Needless to say I have not entered any lotteries. I’m terribly concerned that some senior citizens might be hoodwinked into believing this scam. Since it came through the mail, I assume it’s a federal crime.

I was sent a check for $3750.00 drawn on Sewell, 7310 Lemmon Avenue, Dallas, Texas

I was told I had won $250,000 and to call the number listed on the letter which was 1-877-260-2425 and the name Ms. Jene Olgah was who was listed.

When I called I was told to take the check to the bank and call her back once deposited. I was told to only take the check, nothing else. When I asked why I couldn’t take the letter she said just take the check. I asked her if this was a scam and she hung up on me.

I called back and she answered the 2nd time I called. I informed her that I was reporting her scam to the ScamPulse.com and she said "F U" that is all "FU" and hung up.

Letter received from "Mutual Financial Incorporated" claiming to be an official notice confirming me as one of the 2nd prize winners of a sweepstake in the amount of $250,000. Included was a very real looking check for $3,750.00 drawn on JP Morgan Chase Bank, NA in Syracuse New York of the account of Duke Engineering Corporation, 550 South Tyron St., Charlotte, NC 28285. This check is provided (supposedly) "to help you pay for the processing fee" of $3,400.00.

The company is similar in name and address to Duke Energy, the Duke Energy Center is at 550 South Tryon (not Tyron) in Charlotte, NC 28285. There (of course) appears to be no such Duke Engineering Corporation and their address is an obvious fabrication being close to the name and spelling of a well known company and the address of one of their plants.

The instructions say to call "your claims agent" @ 1-877-322-4686 "to start your claim processing and to activate your check".
