Type of a scam Employment

I’m writing because I was recently involved in a job scam using the job search website Angellist. The company I applied for was Net10 Wireless and the job position I applied to was a Remote Customer Service Representative. I applied on 7/26/2019.

The company is a legitimate company out of Florida and doing research on names and employees of the company everything seemed to line up fine. I was contacted by a Madison Welu at this number (201) 530-6594 and was told to download WIRE which is an app used for instant messenger. I downloaded the app and was met by a person claiming to be Desya Ilari with the ID desyailari. I then went through a long interview process using only messenger and was soon offered a full time position. “She” sent me an “Offer of Appointment” on 8/22/2019 at the email address [email protected] I looked it over and everything still seemed to line up fine so I sent a signed copy back to her on 8/22/2019. “She” said that a check was being sent to me to cover the costs of equipment and to use their “vendor” and I would be receiving it in a few days at my provided address.

This is when I started to feel like something was not right and did more research about scams and had my doubts. I played along and received the check in the mail on 8/27/2019 but obviously didn’t cash it. The bank they used was PNC Bank and the name on the check was Alex Morganson in the amount of 3,950.00. The check had nothing about Net10 Wireless on it, just a cashiers check with the name I gave above.

Thank you for your time and I hope this information helps!
