Type of a scam Tech Support

During a citation search on the Internet, a pop-up message appeared that our computer was being hacked and instructed us to call the number on the screen. We called it and reached a "Microsoft Support Team." We were then instructed to allow these people with Indian and British accents to take over our computer and download a Dell Sonic Firewall, among other things. I agreed to purchase the $443 assistance because I was afraid my daughter would lose her collegiate documents that were due at midnight. During this process, we felt uneasy so we looked up the phone number online and found so many reviews and reports on this scam using the same phone number. I immediately shut down the computer and cancelled my debit card this morning. I am now in the process of changing any and all passwords on our devices.
