Type of a scam Debt Collections
Got a call from a company claiming to be SoCal Edison threatening that electricity would be turned off in 20 min if bill was not paid. Told me the total late bill was $1248.23, but min payment of $899.33 could be accepted.
Told me that I could pay with credit or check but that it would take 3-5 days to clear, and Edison would still shut off electricity until payment was confirmed. But they offered they would put a hold on the account and keep electricity on if a minimum balance was paid. Also threatened that if electricity was shut off, there would be a $648 reconnect fee to turn it back on which is "more than your usual bill".
Asked for payment in cash via "authorized" locations, including MoneyGram.
As soon as i asked for more account information and insisted that I would only pay direct at an Edison location only, they hung up on me.
