I received a call that was left on my home answering machine on Jan. 7 and feel it is a scam. It was hard to understand the person — he sounded as if he was from India — but he said he was with the U.S. Treasury and that I had committed some kind of federal offense. He said if I didn’t call back I could be subject to being called before a magistrate judge or jury. The number he gave me was 302-927-7422.

I decided to call him back from my work number so as to not give them reason to call me back at home and he immediately asked if I was calling from the number that the message originated from. I said no, and asked him for his name and what it was about. He confirmed he was with the U.S. Treasury and said his name was Beder Nordh and his badge number was 110680 but he would not give me more information without me giving him more information, which I was not going to do.

I told him I would contact the U.S. Treasury on my own and hung up.
