Total money lost $400

Type of a scam Tech Support

I had numerous pop-up screens on my desktop computer that said I had a virus and that I should contact Microsoft immediately. I called the number I was given (the one above or several others: 844.514.6136 855.393.4315 I have always been so cautious, knowing when a call or contact is a scam, and hanging up. Since this said I was calling Microsoft, I stupidly thought it was legitimate. After a $400 charge, they took control of my computer and a tech worked remotely. That was over a week ago and my computer seems to run much better. Also, I checked with Geek Squad for security threats and I have none. I wouldn’t think anything of it, but the red flag was when I couldn’t find any information about them anywhere, was given so many phone numbers, and got a call from someone in India, supposedly representing the company, telling me to go to my computer and turn it on so they can "correct" some problems. My credit card bill shows: GEO Linear Marketing, 708.824.9365, NV and they said it also could be billed as TRAX. I’d love to stop beating myself up about this and find out it’s legitimate. If it’s not, I want to stop others from losing money. I hope you can help me with this. Thank you so much!
