Type of a scam Debt Collections

I received a call from my local police stations phone number. They informed me that I had a unpaid bill that was in collection & I would have a warrant issued for my arrest if I didn’t call US legal support at 415-240-0070 immediately. After I hung up I call my police department & they had not called me. I then called the US Legal Support who said they were a law firm working for US Financial Resources & Transunion. They told me I owed $1988.41 or I’d have a warrant issued tomorrow at 11:00 am. I asked why I didn’t have anything on my credit report & he asked when I last looked at my credit report, which I replied…I have it up now looking at it. He hung up on me.

I called back & said we must have been disconnected. This was a different person. He told me same as above. When I mentioned that I was looking at my credit report at that minute, he said he didn’t know why it wasn’t on there. But I owed the money. He could not tell me which creditor until I paid him or the warrant was issued. I asked him which courthouse I needed to report to. He said the one in my town. (My town doesn’t have a court house). I told him I called my local police station where the original call came from & they had no record of calling me. He said I needed to check with the warrant department. I told him our town is very small & we have 3 people in our police station that I know personally. He then hung up on me.

Type of a scam Phishing

They first called with a number that looked like the Nacogdoches police department saying that I had a warrant out for my arrest. they gave me a case number and a phone number which was supposedly for US legal support, the number was 844-298-6928.

when I called the number they said a number of things including that I owed $1988.64, they asked me if I wanted to settle out of court which because I didn’t know it was a scam I was unsure about. they told me the call was recorded and that if I hung up they would take that as a no and I would be arrested. ultimately after finding out that it was a scam they asked if it was confirmation that I wasn’t going to pay I said yes, which honestly may be a way for them to still try and scam me.
