Type of a scam Government Grant
Received a call from a "Verification Officer" from the Treasury Dept. He asked for me by my first name. Said that the US Treasury was granting money ($2000) to certain individuals and that I was selected. He asked if I was married, my age and my zip code. I asked how my name was selected. The response was that it was from census information.
Satisfied with my information, he gave me his name, Austin Foster (although his accent was so difficult to understand), an award number, an area code 202 telephone number for final processing, and his extension number.
Feeling suspicious, I did not make the follow up call. I have never heard of the US Treasury granting money to a select group of citizens.
