Type of a scam Online Purchase

My mother was looking for a Yorkshire Terrier and found Valerie Cuties Yorkie Website. There she found several puppies up for sale at $700 and free shipping (due to a shippers coupon). She sent the initial email in and was asked about her home life. She was approved for a dog and was asked to send a money gram to:

Khibi Rodney Thunder Bay On

Reason for payment: Friend Assistance

$900

My mother asked to call her as she preferred to send e-tranfer or her credit card. The owner replied that they would call. They called 2 days later in the morning without leaving a voicemail with a contact number to call back. My mom asked for the number but they refused to provide it.

When speaking to them, she asked why she couldn’t do an e-transfer to which they replied "We don’t do that".

When I asked her to call the number she say on the caller display, a man answered and could barely be heard. She asked for more information on the parents but the man could not be understood. She asked him to call her back. Moments later, she received an email of 2 random pictures of yorkies without further information about them.

I advised not to continue this transaction as there were too many red flags.

No money was exchanged but her full name and phone number was provided. She advised me that her address or any other identifying information was not provided.
