Type of a scam Counterfeit Product
Individual will contact you regarding a vehicle for sale on craigslist.com. They will express interest, then ask for a VIN report from a specific website. The website will appear legit, and even use a secure payment form from ClickBank. They will produce a bogus VIN Report and you will never hear from the "interested buyer" again.
Email examples:
"I have the money and I’m planning to purchase your bike if it checks out but before I do that, I would like to see a title history record that can be found at www.cycleprocheck.com . I heard a lot of pretty scary stories about bike sales on craigslist and the title report is all that is holding me back from buying the bike. Please get back to me with a copy of the report."
Another example:
"Thanks for the additional info. The thing is I have a really long drive to you so i want to make sure everything is fine with the bike, before I come. That’s why I asked for the report..Would it be possible to send me bike history report from http://bit.ly/VJreport because my mechanic told me to ask for that one, and since I asked for it, of course, I will repay you the money when i come to look at the bike. If you send me the report and if everything is ok, I could come on Tuesday so we can discuss about the price and get everything done. Please let me know what you think."
