Type of a scam Utility

A Volunteer Energy Services employee/representative came to my medical office on November 14, 2016, fraudulently presenting himself as a DTE Energy employee and presented a DTE Energy employee ID badge. He asked for the name of my receptionist who he spoke with and presented to her a program about alternative natural gas supply. My receptionist did not receive any documentation from this man nor did she sign any document or verbally authorize any transaction. Yesterday, on December 28, 2016, I received a postcard with DTE Energy’s name, address, and logo on it stating that we had "enrolled with Volunteer Energy Services, Inc. to purchase (y)our natural gas supply." I contacted Volunteer Energy Services whose records showed the name of my receptionist as being an authorized person who authorized the switch from DTE to Volunteer Energy. I instructed Volunteer to cancel this, stating that this employee did not request or authorize Volunteer or DTE to make any such change. I confirmed with my employee that she did not verbally or in writing request or authorize such a transaction. I own this building and have two other tenants in the building. Another tenant was also switched without their knowledge, and the fraudulent Volunteer Energy employee also used their receptionist’s name to fraudulently create a switch contract for them also.
