Type of a scam Tech Support

On 2-4-17 was going into notifications on Facebook when a message appeared in the middle of the screen, stating that a virus has been detected and I all my information was in danger of being exposed, as in credit card accts, bank accounts, etc. Message said not to shut computer down or everything would be blocked and I would lose all access to everything. Called number given and automated voice stated there was a large number of incoming calls and to call back in 10 minutes. I hung up and called back immediately and it was answered by a Tom Cooper, ext. 2604. He proceeded to reiterate what the computer was already telling me. That my computer was under attack and that they needed to stop what was happening. He brought up the "business" name on screen to show that they were legitimate and that they serviced all Window problems. He removed the blockage and proceeded to show me all these error screens that he found. He kept telling me that unknown IP addresses were showing up in my system and that others (unknown) were attempting to get my information. Offered to shut these down and also told me that I no longer had any security so I needed them to help me protect my computer. Asked them how much this would and was told $299 would keep me covered for 3 years. And I would not need to pay them anything extra during those 3 years if problems occurred. Told him I was not able to believe him on his word alone, so needed to contact an IT person that I worked with in order to ask them if this was something that made sense and that I needed to do it. He, again, brought up the Web Bio Technologies "web-site" to prove that they existed. I told him he was verifying himself and that I needed a third-party for this. It would be like a criminal calling me and giving me a number to call to verify that he was legitimate; but the person I was calling was his friend, so of course they would verify him. He stated that he would take off what he had done and bring it back to where it was before the message appeared. He acted upset that I didn’t believe him. I told him that I needed to contact my IT friend and if they stated I needed to do this, could I reach him at the number he gave me (1-888-309-6869) and he said I could call him back and gave me an extension number for him directly (2604). Spoke to my friend and she said to shut down my computer and if it came back up with no problem, that it was a scam. I did this and the computer came back up and I haven’t had a problem since. I am concerned that they can do this out of nowhere and create such an aura of fear that others have "hacked" your system or given you a virus that only they can fix. Kept wanting me to give me my name, address card # and account #’s. Told him that this is what scammers do and everyone is told not to give out this information to someone you haven’t contacted yourself. Again, brought up the Web Bio Technologies web-site to help me believe him. I am still leery of doing any of my financing on-line because of this. I did have security, it was not closed and it did not show any viruses or anything else. I just wish others did not feel the need to scam others to make money for themselves.
