I found a newspaper ad for the selling of a golden retriever. When I emailed, she said that she had already moved due to a new job and the puppy would be shipped. We communicated back and forth by email. Information was provided about the dog. They stated that the dog was being prepared for shipment and would be shipped the next day after payment. Money was sent by Western Union to the "husband" Tony Mathews. They stated that a change of ownership document would need to be done. I thought that this was AKC paperwork. It was a change of ownership document that was supposedly from the Dept of Animal Husbandry. It was also sent from another email address – [email protected] The document appeared fake. That is when I realized it was a scam. When I contacted them after the document was received, I stated that I wanted to cancel the transaction and asked for a refund. They said they would return my money but didn’t.
