Type of a scam Business Email Compromise

My customers (an industry standard published list of Exhibitors at my show) were targeted as sales leads for an imaginary list of attendees. The scammer used our business name in the subject line and in the body of the email to attract attention and gain trust. No phone number was given and the domain name is not associated with a business. The only way for someone to make an inquiry or complaint is to reply to the email, giving the sender your contact information and confirming what they already have (list-building). I was notified by one of my exhibitors asking if this list was real. The word choices (revert rather than reply) hint that this is an overseas contact rather than a legitimate business.
