Will trying to sell a car on Craig’s List, I got an inquiry as follows:

" Interested in getting in touch with you. Has it been in any accidents? Craigslist has not been sending all my mail for some reason, so please contact me direct at my personal email – TomNelson915(at)Gmail.com (this is the easiest was to get in touch with me!)

Talk to you soon. Thanks!

Sent from Tom’s iPhone"

I responded to the email. Next message asked about a vehicle history report and suggested a website to get one cheap.

"Hello, I was reaching out to you about your vehicle for sale. Do you have a current vehicle history report for it? If not, I suggest getting one at:

www.vehiclecheck.report

When I was selling my vehicle I got one from there to show people that were interested. It was only $19 which is half the cost of Carfax($40 or more). It will show if there are any issues with it. The peace of mind it gives for such a large sale is a bonus too.

It will verify that it has not been in any bad accidents, that it has a clean title and that it has not been stolen. There are so many scams out there. People are more likely to look at it with a report provided – it will definitely help you with the sale.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks! "

Fortunately my antivirus/maleware software blocked my foolish attempt to use that bogus website sending off alarm bells – a quick search found that this is now a common ploy to get credit card information. Lesson Learned and Shared.

I posted a car for sale on Craigslist one day ago. A man contacted me asking if it had been in an accident. I wrote back to say no. He responded within seconds which should have made me suspicious cause the email was much too long to respond so quickly.

He wrote:

I thought it was a good idea so I ran the report as I saw it had an ad just below CarFax. I did get a report which did not say anything about accidents. Maybe it says what it needs to but I don’t know. However, when I went to get the Craigslist link to post online, nothing happened when I clicked on the link. Then my computer told me that the site was trying to download multiple files. That’s when I knew this was wrong and looked it up online to see if it was a scam. I am so grateful my computer automatically stop the downloads. Fingers crossed that nothing was added to my computer. I will be on the look out.

Posted a car on Craigslist for sale. Scammer responded through Craigslist as an interested buyer and told me to reply to a gmail address as Craigslist messaging is unreliable. I responded to the gmail address and an auto-reply was sent back to me telling me to use www.vehiclecheck.report at $20 instead of CarFax at $40 to help sell my car faster and ease buyers that it’s not a scam. How ironic. I did not give out any information about the vehicle and googled the website provided. It doesn’t exist and my google search turned up vehicle scams. Reported to gmail as phishing attempt.

Sounds like a scam, and this website doesn’t come up on lists of reputable car reports.
