This person above contacted me by phone, then started messaging about a vehicle I have for sale in Craig’s list.
She sent me official VIN website and her email to send report.
I paid 20.00 for the report and sent it to her.
Did not hear back and no response to calls or emails so I got suspicious.

Got a text from 717-857-9793 asking about a car I just listed online for sale. The person asked for a car history specifically from supremevinchecks.com which is an alias for official.vin
As soon as I asked if official.vin was their site since it is very new and is listed as very likely to be a scam, I stopped getting responses.

Was selling a car on autotrader.com and got a call – asking if still available – and then cut off immediately. couldn’t get through when trying to call back. then they texted saying "can’t talk right now" – which is weird since they called ME. and then wanted a VIN check of car through this site "planinumvinchecks.com" which goes to official.vin which charges $19.99 for check on vin – but then they get your credit card details.
looks like there are other scams like this.

Buyer on craigslist wants you to look up VIN and have you email it to them, since my vin came up with no history when other sites give the history, I said that it wasn’t coming up and the person kept saying that they will wait for the report when I said that it doesn’t work.

My experience was identical to that found in the comments of this pngage: https://www.scamfinance.com/official-vin/
I advertised my car for sale on my local Craigslist. I received a missed call from 1-223-50. Immediately afterward, 727-605-9615 contacted me via text. In short, it asked me to use easyvinhistory.com to get a VIN check and email it to [email protected] I tried to deflect, and the next message told me to use vinnhistory.com to do the VIN check. Both "sites" are redirects to official.vin (and are blocked by my organization, which is great!). I’m glad I found the scamfinance.com report to understand what was happening.

Tried to call me then asked if vehicle was still available and then when I said yes hung up, tried to call back never rang and sounded like people talking in background, texted and said they have been watching the vehicle for a while( had been posted about 1 day) and then sent me a link to a pngage that wouldn’t load and another to official.vin and said they needed a car report and they would meet me, faked filing the report and sent and they wouldn’t send a text back after that

When posting a car for sale, they pose as potential buyer to get you to pay for a VIN # check at official.vin. This web address seems to be started January of 2018 but claims to have checked 13 million VIN #’s. There was never any intention of buying a car

texting to respond to an online ad. asked me to go to elitecarfaxreport.com to download carfax report before setting up an appointment, while the website is re-directed to another website called official.vin. This website asked for credit card number without specifying the price. Some key word search online revealed that many have been attacked by the same phishing technique.
