Type of a scam Online Purchase
Very simply, I ordered a package of dietary supplements from overseas. I am contacted by the company and they say that I need to pay a required $800 refundable insurance fee on it. So, after some haggling back and forth I agree to pay and the customer service representative tells me to check in 5 minutes and it should be cleared and my payment refunded. Next, I look and I see it has a $700 "insurance fee" on it that I have to pay. I tell the rep that this is insane and I’ve never heard of such a thing. Even if I paid the additional $700 (which I can’t afford), what’s to say they won’t come back 5 minutes later and tell me I owe them $600?
They also threatened that they would report me to the police for not paying the fees. This is completely outrageous and I’ve never heard anything like this.
This company has offices all around the world, but I believe they are based in South Africa.
