Type of a scam Healthcare/Medicaid/Medicare

Caller identified their business as a Medicare/Medicaid service and wanted to confirm my identity and my Medicare/Medicaid status. Unfortunately, it was early and I had just woken up…then answered yes, it was me and no, I don’t have Medicare or Medicaid. At that time, it hit me and I hung up, but am concerned I just authorized some garbage fee or service.

Type of a scam Tech Support

Male with south Asian (Indian) accent called my cellphone and warned me that my computer had a virus and he was going to help me remove it. I immediately recognized it as a scam, because I wasn’t expecting any calls from tech support. I figured I’d play along for a bit. At least he would waste some time with me which means less time to scam others. He directed me to my keyboard and to look for button ‘Ctrl’ on bottom left of keyboard. Then he asked what button was to right of that one. I told him the windows button. Then he instructed me to hold that button and press ‘r’. I did not know that function of that combination so at that point I asked him if he knew my name. He responded, ‘***’ then terminated the connection. Oh how I wish I could be in the same room with him. To call me in attempt to scam me, then call me a name… If he is found I’m willing to press harassment charges.
