Company selling labor posters sounded very legitimate. Being a new small business owner, I failed to recognize the scam. I tried to ask the right questions, but they had answers for all of them. It cost me $189, tax exempt they said. Lesson learned.

I got a call from Washington, DC (in the caller ID) from someone claiming to be from the US Federal Compliance Office. I asked if she was part of the US government and she said yes. She claimed that I need to post notifications about the federal labor laws (which is valid). I asked her if these documents were available online and she said no, and furthermore any LLC, especially new businesses aren’t aware of these required posters and it could result in a fine upwards of $35,000. Being a fledgling business, her scare tactics worked and she was able to get $189 from me to get posters that are available for free online on the federal government’s website.

An "agent" called to tell me that my small business ( we dont have any employees) was out of compliance because we did not order posters from the Dept of Labor. I grew suspicious when she said that she did not have any way to mail me the official request from the Dept of Labor and she could not quote the section of law which requires this. I called our state IG office, they said its a SCAM. Dont fall for this or any ONLINE "service". Immediately contact your state IG office and make a complaint and give them the telephone number and/or address.
