Type of a scam Credit Cards

A person identifying himself as John Davis, has called many, many people in our office. He identifies himself as working for Xerox or another printer/copier company and most recently talking to him this is what he said: "Since the toners you ordered for your HP machine were on back order, we just got them in and we’re wanting to get them out to you. What was the make and model of your HP machine? (I told him we have an HP machine, but we rarely use it) He then proceeded to tell me that was his mix-up, that he must be referring to a machine that we do use frequently and he asked for the make and model of that machine. He then apologized for the toners to be coming so late, and that he had them ready for shipping, all he needed was my credit card number. He tried rushing me into giving him the number, because he had a lot of phone calls similar to this one and he had a meeting in 20 minutes and a medical appointment this afternoon. I told him I needed to check up on something, and that the cartridges were never directly charged to my card, that’s not how we did business for the toners. He said "Ma’am, are you Kari? Your name is all over this paperwork and I don’t know how they’ve done it in the past, but I need to get your credit card, so I can get you the cheaper rate. They were $360 a piece and now they’re $460", but he would honor the lower price if he got my cc number now. He said they would send two of each color, totalling $2880.

As I sent a note around, I found out that others have talked to him and he was very convincing to them as well. He finally gave me his phone number after multiple tries of getting it from him. It is 800-786-0999 ex 1502. When calling this number, you get a recording to take a short survey and get entered into a drawing for a Carribbean Cruise.
