Relative saw a pop-up on the computer that it was infected and told him to call the toll free number. The "technician" requested access to his computer and showed him more fake warnings and stated that he was under threat of having his financial information stolen and that he would need to pay for 3 years of tech support/security services up front for $650.
The "technician" asked that he pay with a debit card instead of a credit card as it was "more secure". After speaking to my relative I had them immediately call the bank to cancel the charge and close his card. After inspecting the computer I found fake security software and text files with multiple 800 numbers and fake names to call if they had the problem again.
