I responded to a Facebook job post and a lady texted me the company website and asked my to download hangouts. She told me to reach out to a certain email on hangout and the lady gave me a virtual interview. She then asked me to wait for 10minutes and told me I got the job offer and it’s to work remotely. She asked for my picture to use on my laptop which will be sent to me . She also asked for my name, phone number, email address and home address . She then sent me a pdf check to deposit through my bank which I did and kept following up with me if the funds are available. When I called chase bank, i was told I’m a victim of an employment scam.

Initial means of contact Social media (e.g., Facebook)

There was an add on FB stating employment for a data entry Specialist clerk that involves inputting data into computer such as copy and paste, capturing data from documents, using Microsoft words that pays $17 hour. It was chat by messenger in FB. I chatted with Mili Payne black young lady that appears on the photos that I’ve downloaded. Mili stated if I could handle it also she stated that I would need to download the hangouts app bc it was needed by the company to continue towards the interview process and is the way that the company communicates because I asked about the interviewing process. Mili referred me to Elizabeth Nora Austin once I sent her a msg through the hangouts app stating who I was and to type job/ interview. Elizabeth then sent me the long msg explaining how long she’s been in the company, and history about the company. After reading I should type “DONE” so that she can proceed. I felt that strange about the part where I would need another form of app to continue to the interview process but I continued to see The extent of this. I explained that I couldn’t continue with the interview process and that I’ll be able to continue the next day, Elizabeth said to contact her 8/6/20 at 8:00 a.m. My time.because I asked if it was EST.
On 8/6/20 I sent her a msg via hangouts app she asked me interview questions, then within 1hr she explained that I was qualified to continue to the next step she explained that I was hired , will make $17 hr working from home, the company will send me a Mac pc with the offer letter but I would need to send her my name, phn, and email address and send a separate email to [email protected] with my picture and resume. Elizabeth explained that the picture was to get an access card that has a code that would be mailed and it’s used to access the different systems/ softwares within the company. She stated that my trainer would need me to have access to several softwares in the pc that they will be sending which the softwares cost $1450 but the company will send me the $ via pdf check that I would need to print, then cut the edges and deposit it in my bank and once the funds are available I’ll take $100 bonus, get $150 to buy the all in 1 printer and they asked if I understood. Right after I got that msg I confirmed it was as scam, my spirit was more uneasy than ever.
I said yes. I blocked them, uninstalled the app. Changed all of my passwords on a different device just in case and applied other precautionary methods.
