I was contacted from what appeared to be a local number every day around the same time for about two weeks. Somehow, I always missed them by accident, so I tried claling back and was given an "All our operators are currently busy" message and then the call dropped.
I finally caught the call one day and someone kindly offered to "verify" my Google business listing. I have frequently worked with Google business listings and thought this was odd, as I had already done everything possible to verify it long ago. But I had been experiencing lower than normal ratings, so at first, I went along, gave them the basic, surface details of my business. That’s when I was offered to speak with someone to "optimize" my search results for a "small fee" and I knew that would never be offered by Google. I was connected with an "seo specialist" and finally asked the actual name of the company, as the original operator slyly avoided ever saying anything.
The name of the company is IBS (an ironically poor choice in name for a SEO optimization company, as you can’t find them on google easily since IBS is already an incredibly popular acronym for a very common medical condition). Their website is terrible and they have nothing to do with Google. But their North Carolina office address and Bahamas main location address are all listed.
I hope no one is tricked by this terribly executed scam.
