Type of a scam Counterfeit Product

I was on Amazon and I received an alert on my laptop with the Microsoft logo stating that my laptop had been hacked and in order to avoid losing all access to my laptop I had to call 8885929566. I was very leary of calling this number but I use my laptop for remote work projects. I did everything I could to verify that this was a scam, but the person I was talking to provided information to show me that this was not a scam and that I no longer have access to my computer if I did not allow their product to be installed. In my gut, I felt this was a scam but I needed my computer for my consulting job. I then reached out and found that this was a scam and this company had been reported as "thieves", so I immediately called Best Buy (where I purchased my laptop) and since I had a support agreement with them, they "cleaned" my laptop removing anything that was associated to this company. I also notified my bank and all other financial institutions I am affiliated with. I changed my passwords on all websites that I use.
